The first English board made was decorated with a dragon and highlighted Renaissance festivals. These are festivals celebrated only in America and feature costumed entertainers, musical performances, games, and various foods and drinks all themed to the English Renaissance.
The second English board highlighted the holiday of Halloween. It features many popular aspects of how Halloween is celebrated in America. Students were encouraged to interact with the board by decorating a Jack-o-Lantern and answering questions.
The third English board was about the American holiday of Thanksgiving. It explained the holiday’s history and how it is celebrated.
The fourth English board explained how different parts of America celebrated Christmas. Since America is a country made up of people with various backgrounds, not everyone celebrates Christmas the same.
The fifth English board was about Caitlyn-sensei’s home state of Alaska. The state’s diverse wildlife, size, average temperature, sport, and native peoples were highlighted. Caitlyn-sensei also shared a story of her favorite memory from living in that state being when she would receive a paper crane as a gift when she visited a ski lodge after sledding.
The sixth English board was a tribute to Valentine’s Day and featured things from Japan that Americans love.
The seventh English board highlighted how high schools in America are different from those in Japan. It showed the major high school events, how foreign languages are taught, what high school students eat, and how classes work.
The eighth English board was about spring in America. It showcased important holidays like Easter and Cinco de Mayo. It also highlighted the Cherry Blossom festival that takes place in America’s capital. The national parks that Americans visit the most in spring were also featured.
